As part of our commitment to sustainability, Barnett Home Decor has launched several green initiatives over the years. One of our most successful green initiatives has been the launch of our Brisbane Collection of sustainably-made dining chair cushions and rocking chair cushions. In partnership with a fabric manufacturer from North Carolina who leads the charge in sustainable textile innovation, we’re able to offer ethical consumers options that promise not only comfort and style, but also environmental stewardship and responsibility.
🌿 Eco-Friendly Innovations Allow Long-Wearing Performance Without Harmful Chemicals
The olefin fabrics we use to make the chair cushions in the Brisbane Collection are the future of the textile industry. This fabric marks a significant departure from traditional manufacturing methods that have used harmful PFC chemicals. PFCs, common in the industry for their stain-resistant properties, pose significant environmental and health risks, accumulating in ecosystems and potentially leading to toxic effects. Our chosen fabric is a cleaner, greener alternative to traditional performance fabrics, but still offers excellent stain resistance, fade resistance, and abrasion resistance.
🌿 Conserving Water and Energy
The fabrics used in our Brisbane Collection chair cushions are crafted using water-free dyeing techniques, a significant departure from the traditionally water-intensive textile industry. By infusing natural pigments directly into the yarns, this process not only conserves thousands of gallons of water per set of dining room chair cushions, it also ensures a lower environmental impact. Water-less dying means we can entirely avoid the traditional textile processing techniques that cause other companies to dump bleaching and dyeing chemicals into local waterways.
🌿 Greenguard Gold Certified
Greenguard Gold Certification helps buyers identify products and materials used inside the home that have low chemical emissions - improving the quality of the air in which the products are used. GREENGUARD is a unit of Underwriters Laboratories. Each of fabric used to make Brisbane cushions is Greenguard Gold certified.
🌿 Lowering Our Carbon Footprint with Sustainably Upcycled Materials
Our olefin fabrics are derived from pre-consumer upcycled materials that would otherwise be cast off by other manufacturing processes. With its high score on the Higg Index for sustainability, this fabric boasts the smallest carbon footprint among upholstery fibers. Our choice of material reflects a broader commitment to utilizing resources wisely and reducing our ecological footprint. We also use pre-consumer recycled fill material in our chair cushions.
🌿 The Future is Green
Our journey toward sustainability is ongoing, and our choice of textiles is a significant step forward. As we continue to seek out and embrace eco-friendly innovations, we invite our customers to join us in this critical mission. Together, we can make a difference, one cushion at a time, paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
