Brocade

Brocade

"Brocade is a shuttle woven fabric in which the decorative threads are added to the weft in addition to the structural weft and warp threads which support the fabric."

Brocade is a method used to create the illusion of a decorative embroidered pattern.

Brocade has a similar appearance to a tapestry but it does not use the same technique. Brocade fabrics can be highly decorative and sometimes incorporate gold and silver threads.

Brocade fabrics are used mostly in upholstery and window treatments, typically in a formal style decor.

Frequently, the backside of a brocade fabric is not presentable due to the appearance of the supplementary decorative threads, which can be woven continuously from selvage to selvage or which may be trimmed short.
